SMART NUTRITION™ MAP+MST®: What is MST?
Are you considering applying sulfur this year? Studies show that sulfur deficiencies are on the rise in many parts of North America due to a positive reduction in atmospheric sulfur. This atmospheric reduction means more growers need to supplement sulfur in their crop nutrition plan.
Micronized Sulfur Technology (MST) gives growers a better way to feed the much-needed sulfur to their crops. Most elemental sulfur is not easily accessible to crops in the growing season. It can take two or three years, maybe even longer to be available to plants, according to Alan Gerber, Senior Marketing Representative with Nutrien.
Smart Nutrition MST technology helps create smaller particle sizes of sulfur within each granule of fertilizer, allowing for faster oxidation and quicker crop uptake. “The micronized technology allows the elemental sulfur to be available during the actual growing season,” says Gerber.
A benefit of Smart Nutrition MAP+MST to the grower is that instead of blending NPK and sulfur on-farm, growers receive a uniform product that delivers the same nutrients to every plant throughout the field. And it works well in a variety of soil types and growing conditions. Growers are reporting great results in the Midwest, on the East Coast, and even in the Southeast.
“The bottom line is that any grower considering applying sulfur and phosphates should absolutely be considering MAP+MST,” says Gerber.
