The Benefits of Micronized Sulfur Technology

Representatives from Nutrien Ag Solutions across Western Canada share how the micronized sulfur technology used to create Smart Nutrition™ MAP+MST® impacts elemental sulfur oxidation for increased nutrient availability. Watch the video or read through the transcript below featuring Jordan Peterson, Twyla Jones, Candice Robinson, Lyle Cowell and Stacie Yaremko.

Twyla Jones: “Smart Nutrition MAP+MST is a new fertilizer from Nutrien that combines MAP, or monoammonium phosphate which many growers know as 11-52, and a micronized form of elemental sulfur in a single prill.”

Candice Robinson: “Micronized sulfur technology, which represents MST in the product’s name, is a patent technology where the elemental sulfur is micronized into a smaller particle size.”

Lyle Cowell: “It’s a unique, relatively new technology and it provides a significant advantage to sulfur nutrition from an elemental sulfur perspective.”

Jordan Peterson: “What makes this product a little unique is the elemental sulfur particles are extremely small. They have been micronized to fit within certain guidelines and [be an average of] 15-micron size, and that really helps to encourage microbial breakdown in the season and increasing crop availability of that elemental sulfur.”

Stacie Yaremko: “The smaller your elemental sulfur particles, the more we are facilitating that bacterial oxidization of that product. With that very fine particle size, we are getting a more reliable and timely oxidation of that product so that it’s available for plant uptake.”
